BERNARD-GASSET
TRAINING CENTRE

WHY BERNARD GASSET?

He met Louis Nicollin in the 1970s, when La Paillade was still ES Nettoiement, a corporate team. It was under his influence and that of Carlo Llorens that the President of MHSC embarked on the great adventure of a “civilian” team with the famous merger of November 1974… The birth of the club as we know it today. A charismatic figure, he was known for having a “big mouth”, and his outspokenness was often explosive, even caustic, but Bernard-Gasset always knew how to remain respectful. A great football connoisseur, he had the full confidence of President Nicollin, both on and off the pitch. In fact, Nicollin often liked to point out that his friend Bernard-Gasset helped him enormously in the construction and rise of the Paillade club, which he considered to be the daughter he never had. A pioneer in the history of La Paillade, Bernard-Gasset left us too soon, in 2002, but the mark he left on MHSC is as immense as it is indelible. That’s why President Louis Nicollin chose to name the brand new training centre after his lifelong friend: so that the name Bernard-Gasset will live on in the minds of future generations who will wear the colours of tomorrow’s MHSC.
